What is NeuroDevelopmental Therapy? (NDT)
Have you ever thought there may be something more behind your child’s difficulties? Have you realised your child behaves differently from other children but can’t explain why?
Well, I’m an expert in the identification and treatment of physical factors underlying specific learning difficulties, achievement issues and emotional/behavioural concerns.
In other words… I help kids to find the root causes of their difficulties at school or at home. Then we work to resolve them so that they can thrive and blossom.
What sort of difficulties? Things like…
- Being a bit clumsy or accident prone
- not so good at sports or bikes
- overly anxious, especially in new situations
- attention issues – easily distracted, or over-absorbed
- Avoidance of difficult things
- A poor self-image
- Being oblivious to what others are thinking or feeling – or over-sensitive
- Difficulty remembering basic things
- Reading, writing, speech or auditory problems
- Grades not matching effort
- Not coping with life, especially when it steps up to the next level
What’s the theory?
Normal development can be disrupted when primitive (or baby) reflexes are still active after two-three years of life. They are essential to us in the beginning, but sometimes they they hang around for way too long – even for life! When this happens, evidence shows they cause us real struggles in some of the basics in life – like coordinated movement, spatial awareness, fine motor skills, and awareness of self and others.
What do we do?
By looking at posture, movement and ocular function, we can spot the physical signs of developmental immaturity. This enables us to build a picture of where things may have gone awry. We then provide a personal program of primitive reflex integration using the INPP method, and/or The Listening Program.
The results? Our clients (and often their families) are transformed! They
- improve learning skills such memory, attention, reading, writing – and their grades improve too.
- get better at sports such as football and cycling.
- feel less stressed, less anxious, more self-confident.
- develop empathy and understanding, with easier friendships and better relationships at home.
- Are generally happier, and have a level of maturity closer to their age.
